This is the portable version of Secure Folder, a simple application which you can use to lock, hide and encrypt your folders.
The tool is a necessary component for your computer when you are, for example, sharing your system with multiple users. It allows you to maintain a certain level of much-needed privacy.
Since installation is not required, you can place Secure Folder on a removable drive and directly run the executable file on any computer. Also, there will be no changes made to your Windows registry keys.
Once you initiate the program with the clean and simple interface, you are required to set a password that you will input every time you want to access Secure Folder or a folder protected by it.
You can import folders to the list only by using the file browser, since the “drag and drop” method is not supported. But Secure Folder integrates into the Explorer context menu, so you can easily access it from there.
After you import a folder, you can select the security mode between lock, hide and encrypt, or any combination of the three.
In addition, you can use a few tools for your computer, like “Drive Manager” (e.g. hide a drive, remove a drive letter), “Privacy Sweep” (clean items in Recent Documents and others, shred files) and “Screen Capture”, as well as recover a locked folder.
Furthermore, “Startup Manager” lets you disable and add applications which automatically run at system startup, while “Fix System Errors”… is self-explanatory (it works on Control Panel, auto run, Task Manager and others).
The program takes up a low amount of system resources and didn’t pop up errors during our tests. It works smoothly. However, it froze once when we attempted to recover a locked folder (we were forced to restart the application).
Also, if you forget your password, there is no way of recovering it. And the demo version doesn’t support batch processing. To sum it up, Portable Secure Folder is a great tool for locking, hiding and encrypting folders on your computer, and we strongly recommend it to all users.
